Eid al-Fitr
Crafting
Moon with Star with Ramadan text
Materials:
- Paper plate
- Paint
- Foam
- Cardboard
- Fishing line
- Scissors
Method:
Cut a moon shape out of the paper plate and paint it.
Cut a star shape from a leftover piece of cardboard.
Once the paint is dry, make a hole in the plate and the star.
Thread the fishing line through and hang the star invisibly under the moon.
Cut the letters RAMADAN out of the foam and stick them on the star.
If you write the letters on the back of the foam, remember to do it in reverse.
Mosque
Materials:
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paper straws
- Cardboard
- Scrap paper
Method:
Cut the straws to the desired length.
Start with the bottom and stack them on a piece of cardboard.
In this example, 15 straws were used for the bottom.
For the towers, 2 rows of 3 straws were used.
The remaining pieces were glued on top of the towers.
Then make the windows and dome from paper. Glue these onto the straws.
You can glue the dome exactly between the towers.
After that, you can decorate it as beautifully as you wish.
Paper Lantern
Materials:
- Paper
- Washi tape
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Stapler
- Glue
- Decorations
Method:
Fold an A4 sheet in half lengthwise.
Using your ruler, draw a line that is 1 cm wide along the entire length.
Then, on one side of the folded sheet, draw lines 1 cm apart up to the long line you just drew.
Cut these lines up to the long line.
When you unfold the paper, you can use washi tape to cover the two long sides of the A4 sheet.
Now glue the lantern shut at the short ends. Let it dry well.
Make a handle from a piece of paper and staple it to the rim.
You can decorate the lantern as beautifully as you wish with various decorations.
Dua Book
Materials:
- Cardboard
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- String
Method:
Fold a sheet in half and trace your hand.
Draw your hand with your pinky against the fold line.
Make sure to keep your pinkies together when you cut.
So your pinkies are actually stuck together.
You are essentially making a book from your hands.
At the bottom of your palm, make a hole with the hole punch and thread a string through it.
Now you can fill the pages with duas or supplications.

Eid al-Fitr Recipes
Baklava
Ingredients:
- 1 package phyllo dough (frozen, 225 g)
- 75 grams butter
- 200 grams sugar
- 200 grams shelled walnuts
- 2 packets of blanched almonds (45 g each)
- 1 orange
- ½ cinnamon stick
- Food processor or mortar
- Square cake pan approximately 25 x 25 cm
Preparation:
You may need help from an adult because the oven will get hot and you will use a sharp knife!
Preheat the oven to 200 °C or gas mark 4.
Remove the phyllo dough from the freezer about 2 hours beforehand. If you place the dough between a damp tea towel, the sheets won't stick together and tear easily.
You can grind the nuts in the mortar or food processor and then mix in the sugar.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Brush the cake pan with some melted butter.
Then layer the bottom of the baking pan with 5 sheets of phyllo dough. Each sheet should be brushed with butter.
Then distribute the nut mixture over the dough base and smooth it out. You can place the remaining sheets of phyllo dough on top. Brush the top with butter and lightly sprinkle with water.
Cut the top of the baklava into approximately 16 square or diamond-shaped pieces with a sharp knife. Bake the baklava in the center of the oven for about 20 minutes until it's cooked and golden brown. In the meantime, clean the orange peel well and cut off half of the peel, without the white part, into strips. In a small saucepan, bring 250 ml of water with 175 grams of sugar, the orange peel, and the cinnamon stick to a boil. Simmer for about 15 minutes until it looks like liquid syrup. Then remove the cinnamon stick and the peel. Be careful, it's hot!
Remove the baklava from the oven (let it cool) and brush the top with the remaining butter using a brush. Distribute the (cooled) syrup over the baklava. Let the syrup soak in and allow the baklava to cool.
With a sharp knife, you can completely cut through the pieces of baklava. It's best enjoyed at room temperature.
